Muhammad Abdul Monim

What keeps me continuously supporting RSI is the engagement of the community from all walks of life. Regardless of colour or creed, we all recognize the amazing nature of science, and it serves as a unifying force among us.

My name is Muhammad Abdul Monim. I am a 28-year-old teacher at a local Islamic boys secondary school in Rochdale. I decided to participate in RSI activities for various reasons.

Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated by science and thoroughly enjoyed my science lessons in school. Although I did not pursue it academically, I furthered my education by studying religion. To my pleasant surprise, I discovered the strong connection between science and Islam. I would always eagerly seize the opportunity to learn more about science. When I learned that my cousin brother, Mohammed Rahman, and my nephew, Labib, were organizing science events in the local community centre, I made sure to mark those dates and events on my calendar.

Working with RSI has provided me with numerous benefits, highlights, and achievements. A few years ago, RSI gave me and some students from our school the opportunity to participate in a project called 'faith and science,' which aligned perfectly with our school's ethos. Through hands-on learning, many students greatly benefited from the experience and even achieved higher than expected grades in their GCSE exams. Our science teacher always supported and endorsed any initiatives by RSI. Even the Ofsted inspectors were impressed with the valuable work RSI was doing in collaboration with our school.

A personal highlight for me was when I had the opportunity to share the stage with esteemed scientific personalities and community leaders to discuss the significance of science, particularly in relation to our faith. It was a truly memorable experience.

What keeps me continuously supporting RSI is the engagement of the community from all walks of life. Regardless of colour or creed, we all recognize the amazing nature of science, and it serves as a unifying force among us.

If you're wondering how you can get involved with RSI, let me assure you that you don't need a background in science. Just like me, you might not have one either. However, that shouldn't deter you from participating. RSI warmly welcomes everyone, and it provides an excellent platform for learning and honing new skills. The team at RSI is incredibly welcoming and always ready to lend a hand. By getting involved, RSI can help you adapt your skills in a way that benefits not only yourself but also the wider community.
